VOLUNTEER

Diane Adams, President, Winter Haven Hospital Auxiliary

It is a very exciting time at Winter Haven Hospital. We look forward to being ready to do open heart surgery in July 2005 and angioplasty in March 2005.

Additionally, construction has begun for totally new operating rooms, a beautiful new lobby and numerous other positive changes in the summer of 2005.

Many new ideas are being implemented to expedite services for Emergency Room patients and patient satisfaction throughout the hospital, as measured by an outside organization, is extremely
high.

We have recently begun an Arts in Medicine Program and over 50 musicians and artists are performing in patient rooms (pending patient approval) and in the lobby. Also, patients have the opportunity to do artwork of their own.

Our Auxiliary Board has a strategy to assist the hospital with these initiatives and we would whole-heartedly welcome new volunteers to join us. The opportunities are numerous. They include:

  • Assist in the Gift Shops, Coffee Shop& Fund Raising Projects
  • Perform hospitality activities
  • Provide assistance on Nursing Units
  • Deliver meal trays, snacks & flowers
  • Perform light clerical duties
  • Assist in the Hospital Library & the Health Information Department.
  • Greet visitors in the Emergency Department, the Patient Access Department and/or the Lobby Patient Information Desk
  • Perform personal services for Patients, such as visitation, offering reading materials, writing & mailing letters
  • Serve in the Arts in Medicine Program, providing opportunities for patients through arts & music
  • Assist with Hospital Interdepartmental Communication in the “Courier” Service
  • Assist with Educational Programs & Conduct Tours
  • Assist Patients & visitors with finding their way in the Hospital through transport/escort services
  • Assist in Hospital sponsored Community Service Events, such as Community Health Fairs

Those of us who have volunteered for years know we are making a positive difference. Hospital leaders continually acknowledge that what we do is vitally important and it has truly added meaning to our lives as we help those in need. Please consider joining us and giving back to our wonderful hospital and our community. For more information, call the Volunteer Services Department at 863/291-6750. Thank You.
