AARP Mature Driving Course
Classes are all on Monday and Tuesday, in four-hour sessions and must be taken consecutively.

Babysitting Training
This class teaches safety, accident prevention, handling emergencies and how to be a responsible babysitter.
For young people ages 11-16. Space is limited, so call early.

Building Better Bones
For women and men of all ages, this 2-part class will give you the tools to build better bones and lessen the damaging
effects of osteoporosis. Includes the disease process, nutrition, medical management, and exercise. Presented by
Winter Haven Hospital's Regency Medical Center and Outpatient Rehabilitation Services.

Baby Signs™ classes are now available at the Regency Medical Center. Designed for babies and
toddlers from birth to age 3, the Baby Signs™ Program enhances communication and alleviates
frustration for parents and babies. There are two exciting ways to begin signing with your baby.


Baby Signs Parents Workshop
In this one-hour workshop, participants learn about the research and amazing benefits of the Baby SignsTM Program, how to
choose and teach signs and how to make signing a natural, easy part of parents’ and babies’ daily routines. Enrollment
includes the Baby SignsTM Parent Kit with the basic tools needed to begin learning signs with your baby.

Sign, Say & Play
In the six-week Sign, Say & Play™ class, parents and babies learn 40-50 baby signs together through 45 minutes of fun and stimulating activities. These include singing, dancing and lots of playing and signing. Participants also receive the Sign, Say & Play™ kit, full of materials designed to make teaching and learning signs a fun and enriching experience for the whole family.

Improving Your Standing Balance
Posture, strength and stability can influence your standing and walking balance. This program can educate you in how to decrease your risk for falling.
Dates: August 16, 23, 30 and September 6, 2005 or November 8, 15, 22 and 29, 2005

Living With Diabetes
A four-week course including an overview of diabetes, meal planning, self-blood glucose monitoring, awareness of complications, and dealing with stress.
Dates: Four Wednesdays of each month

Lung Disease
Winter Haven Hospital’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program offers free community education lectures. These informative
topics are focused on those people who have lung disease. Friends and family members are also encouraged to attend.
All lectures begin at 1:30 P.M. and will be held at the Senior Activity Center, 250 Lake Silver Drive, Winter Haven.

February 3, 2005
April 7, 2006

Also available: an individualized Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program for those with Chronic Lung Disease. Endurance
training, education and instruction is given by qualified respiratory therapists and a multidisciplinary team that varies
with the individual needs of the client. The program is 5 weeks long, meeting twice weekly and is geared towards the individual goals and disease process. The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is approved by Medicare and most major insurance companies. Physicians referral is required.

Activities are planned and organized by Chuck Warren, Coordinator of the Sage-ing Program at Winter Haven Hospital. Chuck is also a Sage-ing leader with the Spiritual Eldering Institute of Boulder, Colorado. If you are interested in learning more about these workshops, please call Chuck at 292-4124. Most programs are free, however, seating is limited, so we ask that you call and reserve a seat.

Total Joint Replacement
For any individual considering or scheduled for total joint replacement, this class teaches expectations pre and post surgery, i.e. pain, exercise, length of stay, equipment and follow up care. Class is taught by Orthopedic nurses and Occupational and Physical therapists.
